1969 Land Rover Series II A $24,000
Meet our 1969 Land Rover 88 Series IIA, a stunning blend of history and performance. This Marine Blue Land Rover sports a short wheelbase and a 2.25-liter gasoline inline-four linked with a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Acquired by the seller in 2019 and with only two owners in over 50 years, this vehicle has been meticulously maintained and recently restored. The five-digit odometer currently shows 98,133 miles.
In 2020, a comprehensive restoration was performed before the vehicle was imported into the United States from Great Britain.
The original chassis underwent chemical rust treatment and was painted with durable enamel. A new galvanized bulkhead strengthens the structure. The engine was rebuilt with new components including a fuel pump, water pump, distributor, belts, clutch, and clutch hydraulics. Additionally, a new stainless-steel exhaust was fitted. All engine parts, steering, heater, and other accessories were refurbished and finished with period correct enamel.
The running gear was overhauled with rebuilt axles and gearboxes, new parabolic springs, new shock absorbers, and new steering arms. The braking system was entirely replaced with new brake lines, cylinders, master cylinders, drums, and shoes.
The body received a full makeover; all panels were stripped to the aluminum and repainted in PaintMan period-correct enamel primer and paint. The interior was upgraded with new Exmoor Trim seats and trims, while the dashboard, instruments, and lights were refurbished. New canvas, poles, and tilt were installed with the soft top.
The Land Rover had several practical upgrades, including a side-entry rear door, a wheel carrier, a new soft top, upgraded lights, heavy-duty shock absorbers, wider wheels from a later model, and new tubeless tires.
Additional equipment includes manually locking front hubs, a galvanized “Maltese-cross” grille, a steel front bumper, a receiver hitch, rear mud flaps, fender mounted side mirrors, a folding windshield, and a locking gas cap. Amenities include a heater, rubberized floor mats, and dashboard air vents. Centrally mounted instrumentation consists of a 75-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level.
In preparation for sale, the vehicle underwent the following maintenance and repairs. The clutch slave pedal and clutch master were modified and adjusted to factory specifications. The transmission oil was changed to ensure smooth gear shifting. Additionally, the engine damper seal was replaced to prevent any leaks, and the fuel lift pump gasket and base plate gasket were swapped out for new ones, fortifying the fuel system against any potential issues.
This meticulously maintained and recently restored 88 Series IIA is now offered with one set of keys and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
